Tarnow and Zalipie private tour from Krakow
Day trip from Krakow to Tarnow and Zalipie with a private tour guide-driver.
The First part of this tour is Zalipie "Painted Village". Zalipie, a picturesque village in south-eastern Poland where houses and interiors are covered in colorful floral patterns. Ornamentation of this village started probably in the 19th century. Women painted walls of their cottages to brighten their interiors and make them prettier. Every year, in the spring time following Corpus Christi Church Holiday there is organised a house flowers painting contest , they choose the most beautiful ornamentation. This contest was introduced by Polish authorities to cheer up it's citizens after World War II. One woman, Felicja Curyłowa (1904-1973) is particularly famous in Zalipie, she painted every surface of her cottage...Today her house is a museum where people can see her designs. After the Zalipie tour we will drive to Tarnow.
Tarnow is a charming town with rich history and beautiful architecture located in south eastern Poland, around 1 hour and 15 minutes drive from Krakow. Tarnow dates back to medieval times. Town was founded and granted municipal rights in the 14th century. Before World War II there were around 25.000 Jews in Tarnow, which was around half the population of the town. Jews lived in Tarnow from the Middle Ages till the outbreak of the second world war. All Jews from Tarnow were murdered by Nazi Germans or were send to death camps.
Tour includes historic town center with preserved charming streets, main square with it's burger renaissance houses and gothic-renaissance town hall.
An Important part of this tour is dedicated to Jewish community history.
